VERDICT An outstanding modern luxury, new five-star arrival that does not disappoint on any level. In a world-class city with many hotel and residence combinations, the Park Hyatt is a standout welcome addition.

BACKGROUND The hotel occupies the first 25 floors of the 90-story skyscraper named One57, a luxury mixed-use hotel residential project topped out in late 2013. It’s located conveniently for both business and leisure on 57th Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. The ultra-modern design of the tower by world-renowned Pritzker Prize-winning architect Christian de Portzamparc is carried through in the feel of the generously sized guest rooms designed by Yabu Pushelberg, the curated art and the five-star service. The recently unveiled North American flagship property boasts amenities including a 25th-floor spa, gym and indoor pool, while maintaining the Park Hyatt brand modern style.

WHAT’S IT LIKE?As a seasoned five-star travel veteran originally from the Second City of Chicago – formerly the home of Park Hyatt’s flagship property – I was pleased to find that this hotel does indeed deserve the title. The design, service level, food, and most importantly the rooms are the perfect combination of refined elegance and modern opulence.

WHERE IS IT? Across the street from Carnegie Hall, two blocks from the plethora of shops that dominate 5th avenue, only a block from Central Park, the location on Manhattan’s new “uber-chic” corridor is tough to beat.

ROOMS The collection of 92 suites and 118 guest rooms features custom furnishings, curated art, aromatic scents and luxurious linens. Rooms are generous, and some of the suites feature balconies; all showcase sophisticated museum-quality artwork.

All guest rooms offer complimentary high-speed Internet access, cable/satellite TV, plush bathrobes and slippers, blackout drapes with remote lighting and drape control, custom designed minibar and an exclusive selection of Le Labo bath products.

I have had the pleasure of two magnificent stays at this property since they opened, first residing in a Park Deluxe King, roughly 550 square feet that creates a lavish yet home-like feel with natural stone flooring combined with residential area rug. Its offers a king bed topped in fine Italian linens and city views through floor-to-ceiling windows. A walk-in rain shower and luxurious soaking tub complete the five-fixture bath, combined with modern amenities such as a media hub.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS Alongside the 24-hour room service, dining options include American cuisine from New York culinary stars in The Back Room at One57, along with specialty cocktails at The Living Room, Park Hyatt’s signature bar, which features an enhanced mixology program. My favorites, thus far, include an incredibly delicious and warmly comforting Mushroom Bisque, a satisfying take on mushroom soup. The entrees meet the high expectations set by the firsts, including a wide selection of grass-fed steaks, sustainable fish, fresh seafood and raw bar. However, I believe my favorite is the Lobster Pot Pie.

BUSINESS AND MEETING FACILITIES Park Hyatt New York offers 8,000 square feet of residential-style event space, including a world class ballroom, dramatic show kitchen, three breakout rooms and a state-of-the-art boardroom with a 1,050-square-foot outdoor terrace. I was especially in awe of the Onyx Room featuring walls of customizable backlit white Italian onyx. All meeting space is equipped with the latest in technology.
