More strikes at Frankfurt Airport

The German Union of Air Traffic Controllers (GdF) has announced a strike against the Frankfurt Airport operator, Fraport AG, from today until February 21 (tomorrow), which may lead to delays and cancellations.

This strike comes closely after a previous strike that took place on February 17 (see story here), where almost 200 employees were demanding better pay and working conditions, which led to the cancellation of 300 flights.

Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines and Lufthansa have all stated that scheduled long-haul flights will operate as normal. However, flights may be subject to delays and onward connections may be disrupted. Lufthansa estimates that “only a total of 100 round-trips (domestic and European services)” will be cancelled each day. Passengers are advised to check the carrier’s dedicated ‘cancelled flights’ list here.

Fraport AG, during the previous strike, stated that the union “remains completely intransigent and irresponsible in its demands for high, double-digit pay increases.” The airport operator states it will be prepared for the impacts of the extended strike.
