When is the 767 refit expected to be completed or how many aircraft are to be refit and which routes will the refit aircraft be used on first?
I was thinking this yesterday. There was talk of this last year but the subject has gone silent.
VK, the great Vintage Krug, where are you?You are usually reliable on such matters! I have noticed your distance recently, and hope you are OK.
Anyway, the refit is needed, but I wonder what enhancements they have in mind. One problem of the 767 (which I am a fan of) is that it does not have crew rest facilities, meaning it is not able to do very long routes which it might actually be ideal for (and has the range) , especially new long haul routes for example Asia & South America.
I like the plane as whatever class you are in, you have good seating - economy 2-3-2, economy plus 2+2+2 and club same again. No middle seat inconvenience in club. And the economy seating is I am sure more spacious than their 777 & 747,
A problem though I have heard is that the galleys are not that good, and on other threads there are many postings of passengers feeling the service from DAR & LUN is somewhat unsatisfying on the food front.
With 787s taking their time, opportunities for new routes, especially with the BMI purchase, available, markets waiting to do business and wanting to do business with UK, a good 767 fleet in good condition with the latest products cannot come soon enough.
thanks for the info, just wondering what to expect on 767 PHL-LHR flight
When I have used BA 767 long haul, it was mainly to Bahamas & Grand Cayman, and most were not in bad condition, but that was a while ago. I do not believe any have been refurbished yet. In any case the seating and slightly better legroom makes it ideal for such a route. Inflight entertainment was fine as well, however once I was on a flight from Athens and BA used a long haul configuration aircraft instead of the usual short haul product, and it was what you could call retro!
One 767 is in Cardiff as we speak. They can't refit another 777-200 until the layout has been tested so there's room to start on the 767 fleet. All 767's will be converted. New overhead bins, galley refurb and I understand new WT+ and WT seats as per the 777-300. Not sure about CW seats though as I think there's a space issue so they may just recover the current offer. I doubt the refurbed 767 will be route specific but it'll just slot into the schedule when released.
I understand the first of 7 long haul aircraft to be refitted has gone in for refitting.
The CW seat will be as it is but it will be reupholstered with a colour scheme to match the seat on the Club World London City service. The aircraft is to be completely refurbished with new panels, overhead bins, and WT/WT+ seating. However, I think the Thales IFE system is being retained.
Of course with the bmi purchase, more aircraft maybe refurbished if the 767s are to stay around a little longer.
AA are trumpeting international wifi on their new 773 and the one world carriers are moving towards harmonizing offerings. Does anyone know if this is being included into the BA fleet or are we likely to have wait for the 787 and 380 before we see this from BA? Obviously it would only be long haul as BA still has hardly any short haul equipment even with in seat power.
@ stowage22
not all the 767's will be converted. Only about 14 I believe. 7 front shorthaul and 7 from long haul I believe. When the 787 comes in the non refreshed 767's will leave the fleet first.
Old club world still gives you a fully flat bed and some of the longest journeys are Montreal, Philadelphia and the Grand Caymen for the 767 xx
@ beckyboop. longest journeys on the 767. Try Calgary, Lusaka and Hyderabad!. Montreal is probably the shortest after tel aviv on the longhaul network!. But yes you are right, still has a fully flat bed.
Just saw this on thebasource.com :
14th February 2012 - G-BNWW Set for Friday Test Flight.
Boeing 767-336ER G-BNWW, the first 767 undergo extensive cabin refurbishments at Cardiff-Wales, will undergo a test flight on Friday 17 January with volunteer passengers from the airline. If satisfactory the aircraft will position straight to London Heathrow and be released to traffic.
I happen to be flying on the 767 to PLS this Easter with the family in WT+.
I do hope I get a refurbished aircraft.
Anyone flown the NAS/PLS route recently?
I would consider it very unlikely that you'll get a refurbished aircraft on this route less than 6 weeks after the first refit.
The first of the 767's has finished it's re-fit, it had a test flight on friday from cardiff, with some staff volunteers. I have seen some pics of the interior, looks quite nice, new bigger lockers, new wt and wtplus seats. The club seats are exactly the same, just new seat cushions, and upholstery, new carpets throughout, and I believe, new toilets! Tried to post some photos on here, but it wont let me.
Really want to see those photos...any chance you could link them from another website?
This is rather off-topic, but thought I'd mention that there was a time when Air Canada was flying 767-300ER equipment YYZ-NRT. Unable to say whether a tech stop was made at YVR on the return leg, or not (didn't take it), but it's worth noting as that's a journey of some 10,000 km / 6400 miles (just estimates). Before and since the one occasion on which I flew the route on a 763, other aircraft used were A-340-300, and - currently - 77L and 77W. On the 763 I was seated in the Executive First cabin, which - at that time - did not feature the new pod-style seats. Still, even with the older recliner-type seats it was an excellent flight. As for crew rest, it was (I believe) one of only four AC 767s that were (are?) outfitted with sleeping bunks at the back of the aircraft for cabin crew, and - going by hazy memory now - I want to say that at least one of the solo J seats was curtained-off for pilot rest (configuration was 1-2-2).
