have to take a quick dash to HKG justy before xmas, and I see RJ at 1300 including tax for business! compared to the legacy carriers all at approx 2300+ and the middle east lines at 1900+ I am giving QR my usual the elbow and going to give RJ a look.

Not much in the way of reviews here, anyone have any experiance on thier long hauls in business?

FlyingChinaman - 01/11/2011 21:34 GMT

Which sourse did you get this RJ fare from as I have a couple of elderly British friends wanting to visit HK around the Christmas period?

Jordanians in the hospitality trade are not very service-oriented and it would be interesting to see if the FA are any better!

stevescoots - 01/11/2011 21:46 GMT

from RJ site themselves, my dates of 5-15 are now sold out, you might get some other dates if you juggle around!

FlyingChinaman - 01/11/2011 21:56 GMT

Thanks. These elderly couple are parents to one of my British friends in HK and they are completely flexible in their travel plan!

stevescoots - 01/11/2011 22:01 GMT

I just did 3-13 return and its £1337 busines flex return lhr-hkg inc taxes

get it while u can!

FlyingChinaman - 01/11/2011 22:11 GMT

Thanks for the fare info and I shall forward this to my friend.

SimonHirsch - 01/11/2011 22:11 GMT

Used their busiess class CMB to LHR (£850 for 240 tier points). After push back the captain realised there was a fault so had a 20 hr delay whilst they waited for a replacement part was flown in. Put me up in the airport hotel whilst economy were bussed to some 2 star motel. In AMM I was moved twice to make place for a Princess and then her body guards. Apart from that, service was professional, food good though IFE nothing to write home about.

FlyingChinaman - 01/11/2011 22:28 GMT

My friend's parents might enjoy an unexpected side-trip to Petra if were forced to give up their seats to the royal entourage!!!

LuganoPirate - 02/11/2011 06:54 GMT

I've flown RJ business a few times and found the crew very friendly and helpful. The food is fine as is the seat. I can't comment on the IFE as I never use it.

They're perhaps not up to the standards of the legacy carriers in terms of sophistication, but I don't really need that and taking into account the big fare savings, that more than compensates.

FlyingChinaman - 02/11/2011 08:16 GMT

Good to hear the feedback from a regular user. Most helpful!

Note the flight to HKG routes via BKK, so it is a longer journey. RJ also use their leased A330s (like everyone else, RJ are awaiting their 787s to be delivered). The A330s have sloped flat beds in business class and a 62-inch seat pitch. Their A340s have lie-flat beds and a 78-inch seat pitch. Just so you know. The return to LHR has a five-hour stopover at AMM - which can make the return trip very lengthy indeed.

FlyingChinaman - 02/11/2011 09:08 GMT

Thanks for the report Steven. I have plenty of practical info to relay to my friend!!!

stevescoots - 02/11/2011 09:14 GMT

Its long...but very cheap!

FlyingChinaman - 02/11/2011 09:23 GMT

There is no more truth than you get what you pay for!!!

But my freind's parents have bags of time to spare and they might actually enjoy the stretched travel experience!

I personally only like non-stop flights.

FaroFlyer - 03/11/2011 14:24 GMT

I flew them to HKG last month, in business from MAD via AMM and BKK.

Seats were allegedly lie flat, but similar to old Finnair so not very comfortable. Food OK out of MAD and BKK, but poor out of AMM in both directions. IFE limited but OK. Wine choice poor. Staff were incredibly friendly and attentive.

Did not have Princes on my flights but on one sector, BKK>AMM I did have King Abdullah in 1K while I was in 1A. Needed a pee before landing and, queueing behind him, I realised that for a short time I was second in line for the throne.

Found having security guards on all flights a bit disconcerting, and even more when King Abdullah was on, but I guess safety is paramount. Also found it mildly disconcerting when the captain wished us a safe flight, rather than pleasant or enjoyable.

Would I fly them again? Yes, if I needed 240 status points, but not otherwise. Am looking at January and as BA is only €300 more will probably go back to an old favourite.

Talking of old favourites: How do you get a good deal on Cathay? I used to fly them almost monthly, booked through a travel agent, but now they seem way overpriced, but obviously are not. Any ideas?

Swissdiver - 03/11/2011 17:09 GMT

Can't comment on long haul. But usually enjoy RJ. 5 hours in Amman allows you to go down town. Depending on the schedule, there is an old Roman theatre in very good shape. And some nice restaurants. Alternatively you can go to the lowest point on earth and/or put a finger in the salty dead see... Of course you could stay at the airport but the lounges are not exactly fascinating there...

SwissExPat - 20/04/2012 10:41 GMT

QUestion please for anyone who is a BA Exec Club member.

Did you get BA Status miles having flown in J class with RJ?

Am thinking of taking a flight with them to far east (ex ZRH)

Rgds P

FaroFlyer - 20/04/2012 10:50 GMT

Hi SwissExPat. Yes, you do. J Class gets you a toatl of 480 status points for a round trip being 120 EU to AMM then 120 AMM to HK and likewise on the return, or at least it did last Autumn.

A useful way to top up status points, but the onboard experience is nowhere near BA, and the lounge at AMM is dismal. However, it is cheap:-)

oasis1221 - 20/04/2012 11:00 GMT

RJ has one the most expensive Business class fares and they dare to publish on their web site fares that are untouchable.
They do not care to learn how the big Gulf carriers made it with the hub and spoke although QR and EK business class fares keep going up..
I guess that they may have a different fare base for their nationals!

SwissExPat - 20/04/2012 12:11 GMT

Thanks FaroFlyer

I assume that as a local living in Amman that RJ are not necessarily generous to their local customers!
