If you are traveling for business or pleasure, there are some big mistakes you must avoid at all costs, which will ensure you remember the experience for all the right reasons. Fortunately, some problems are easily avoidable with a little knowledge and planning. Here are six big travel mistakes you should avoid in 2018.

1.     Overpacking Your Luggage

Many travelers make the big mistake of overpacking their luggage, as they might want to bring outfits for every type of occasion, or so they have more choice when it comes to their clothing. Yet this will not only result in you having to haul around a heavy suitcase, but you may also be landed with baggage fees if you exceed the weight limit. Only take the outfits you know you will wear with you and leave the rest at home.

2.     Encountering Bed Bugs

Do you regularly travel the world? Each time you do, you increase the chances of bringing bed bugs home with you, which could invade your home. Prevent bringing the inconspicuous insects into your property by wrapping your luggage in a large plastic bag. You could also line your suitcase with an insect repellent, so they do not make their way to your luggage from another case in a cargo hold or overhead compartment. If you fail to prevent bud begs, you might need to contact Go-Forth Pest Control of Raleigh.

3.     Not Informing a Credit Card Company of Travel Plans

If you plan to use your credit card in a foreign country, you must contact the credit card company to inform them about your travel plans. If you don’t, they could freeze your account to prevent credit card fraud. Ensure you provide them with the information a few days prior to travel, and you should also identify if they charge a foreign transaction fee each time you use your card.

4.     Failing to Buy a Travel Insurance Plan

Travel insurance is a must-have for those visiting a foreign country. It can ensure you will receive coverage for evacuation, delays, and lost/damaged baggage. You can also opt for a plan that provides emergency medical coverage, which could save you hundreds or thousands of dollars. So, always invest in a travel insurance plan when jet-setting your way across the globe.

5.     Not Checking Your Visa Requirements

No traveler wants to be turned away at a foreign checkpoint. Not only will it result in a wasted journey, but it can also be both expensive and time-consuming. If you are planning to visit a foreign country, you must learn more about its visa requirements, which will vary depending on your destination.

6.     Not Protecting Your Expensive Valuables

Unfortunately, you might encounter unscrupulous people at your chosen destination, as they might happily break into your hotel room to steal your belongings. Choose accommodation that provides an in-room safe, and you should also place your cash, electronics, jewelry, and other valuables in anti-theft bags.
