Turkish Airlines / Star Alliance Gold at NBO in Kenya

If you've flown Business Class on Turkish Airlines, you know two things. First, they have amazing food on-board and second, their Istanbul lounge is one of the best in the world. I had a chance to visit their lounge at NBO, the airport in Nairobi, Kenya. I flew Turkish Airlines to get to the Maasai Mara (via Nairobi) for a luxury safari with Angama Mara, flying LAX to IST first, and then IST to NBO.

For the return trip, I started with a bush flight from the Mara back to Nairobi and then a flight with Turkish Airlines from Nairobi back to Istanbul. After a visit to their awesome lounge at IST, I got my flight back to LAX. The daily flight from Nairobi to IST leaves frighteningly early, 5:45 a.m., which meant when I got to NBO at 3:45 a.m., there was nothing open. No shops, no food, nothing. The lounge was up and running and it was wonderful to have a place to have a nice breakfast and space to relax while I waited for the flight.

The Turkish Airlines lounge at NBO is open to passengers flying Business Class on Turkish Airlines, Star Alliance Gold members and Miles&Smiles (the Turkish Airlines frequent flyer program) members.
