American Airlines announced the 787 Dreamliner begins its first flight on May 7, 2015 between DFW and Chicago (ORD).  While it is a bit anti-climatic, it does make good sense.  Flying the plane from one hub to another is definitely the logical way to inaugurate a new aircraft of this stature.

Beginning June 2, 2015 the first international route will operate between DFW and Beijing (PEK).  And on June 4, the plane will head down to Buenos Aires from DFW.

Andrew Nocella, American's chief marketing officer stated, "Adding the 787 Dreamliner to our network gives us the opportunity to increase our efficiency on long-haul flights across the globe and potentially open up new markets in our network. It's a big win for customers and just the latest example of how American is going for great."

Arranged in a two-class cabin configuration, American's 787-8 features 28 fully lie-flat Business Class seats arranged in a 1-2-1 configuration. The aircraft is equipped with satellite Wi-Fi capability to keep customers connected while traveling internationally. All of the features of American Airlines Dreamliner can be found on their website.

American has 42 additional 787s on order.
