The mid-size vehicle, about the size of a Q7, was launched with a huge media event in San Francisco and I had a chance to check it out.

You can order one now and they expect to have them for delivery in early 2019.

The Audi e-tron is a spacious, five-seat electric mid-sized premium SUV. It features an Innovative battery design engineered for repeatable performance, longevity and safety as well as highest levels of Audi infotainment and driver assistance systems.

Customers can enjoy the convenience of exclusive home charging installation through Amazon Home Services (and Alexa works in the e-tron) and complimentary 1000 kWh of charge powered by Electrify America (a developing system of charging stations).

Aside from the launch party and introduction, Audi staged a pop-up Tech Park where I had a chance to meet with their engineers and designers to discuss how and why the e-tron works so well. The electric SUV has a range of about 200 miles and get this, can charge to 80 percent of its capacity in 30 minutes. They estimate the range for a 30 minute charge at 160 miles, better than a Tesla Model X or Jaguar I-PACE.

This video shows Audi CEO Bram Schot introducing the e-tron to the world for the first time. The people in the room are journalists, Audi executives, designers and engineers and Audi dealers from across the world.
