British Airways and JPMorgan Chase & Co. have announced that EMV chip-with-signature technology is now available on the British Airways Visa Card.  It’s the first airline co-branded card to implement the dual security technology.

The card features a high-security microchip technology (so-called “chip-and-PIN”) as well as the familiar magnetic strip (“swipe-and-sign”) to accommodate merchants in the United States. The embedded microchip makes the card extremely difficult to copy, because the encrypted chip enables safer processing and storage of data. Chip technology is already in use in Europe, Canada, and parts of Africa and Asia, among other regions of the world.

In addition to the added convenience, the British Airways Visa Card does not charge foreign transaction fees, delivering up to three percent savings on international purchases. Cardmembers earn 2.5 Avios, the new British Airways Executive Club currency, for every $1 spent on British Airways purchases. All other purchases earn 1.25 Avios for every $1 spent.

The British Airways chip-with-signature credit card can be used everywhere traditional magnetic strip cards are accepted in the US and in more than 130 countries abroad where chip technology is implemented.
