Delta breaks ground at LaGuardia to kick off $4 billion terminal project

On Tuesday, August 8, Delta formally broke ground on their new terminal project at LaGuardia airport. The $4 billion terminal project creating a 37-gate facility will transform the airport as it exists today. The new terminal will host four concourses with 37 gates flexible enough to accommodate the airlines full fleet.  The new space will also feature a larger Delta Sky Club with Sky Deck, additional seating for passengers, 30% more concession space and increased technology for passengers.

At the ceremony, Delta's CEO Ed Bastian was joined by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo and many dignitaries  Governor Cuomo stated:   
 
"LaGuardia is a pillar of New York's transportation network and a key driver of economic growth. The groundbreaking at Delta's facilities represents another step forward as we build an entirely new airport at LaGuardia.  Together with our private-sector partners, we are making rapid progress ot create the world-class gateway to the Empire State that New Yorkers deserve."  
 
Employees who have worked at the airport for over 30 years are excited for the modern updates that are coming to the facility.

Delta CEO, Ed Bastian stated: 
 
"We know the new LaGuardia is one that New Yorkers will be proud to call their hometown airport.  And we are confident that this investment will further cement Delta as the No. 1 airline in New York, with the best customer service and experience on the ground as well as in the air." 
 
Delta has committed $3.4 billion into the upgrades, the rest will be sponsored by the state of NY through the Port Authority.
