Etihad buys Jet Airways' Heathrow slots

Etihad Airways has purchased Jet Airways’ slots at Heathrow airport for US$70 million.

The three pairs of slots will be leased back to the Indian carrier, which will continue to operate its London services.

In a statement Etihad said that “The deal further strengthens the existing commercial relationship, which came into effect in July, 2008, making provision for codesharing between the two airlines”.

Last month it was reported by local media that Etihad was closing in on a deal to take a stake in Indian carrier Jet Airways (see online news January 22).

No further details have yet been released, but the Gulf carrier confirmed that “As previously advised, Etihad Airways continues to progress discussions about further investment in Jet Airways”.

Dear Mark

Before the closure of T2, Luxair flew there. I can't remember how many slots it had, but the service was at least twice daily. Out of interest, do you know where these slots went to.

What a coincidence. I have just found this on Airline Route:

'Luxair will end 2 Daily service on the Luxembourg – London Heathrow route from 26OCT08. It’ll focus its operation in London City where it has 4 daily flights.

According to CH-Aviation, Luxair’s slots at Heathrow will be leased to ETIHAD for 5 years.'
