Etihad Airways, the Abu Dhabi-based carrier, has quickly gained an international reputation as the world's most luxurious airline, even surpassing its Emirati neighbor Emirates. Etihad, which offers a daily, direct flight from Los Angeles to Abu Dhabi, just opened a new luxurious lounge at LAX exclusively for their passengers traveling in Business and First Class.

The July 26th opening event was attended by the Etihad Aviation Group President and CEO James Hogan, along with a number of local dignitaries and Etihad executives. Confirming the airline's unique perspective and desire to be “best in class,” Hogan reminded the attendees that Etihad doesn't “carry passengers, we carry guests.” He also discussed how when it came to service and amenities, they did not compare themselves with other airlines, they see themselves competing against world-class restaurants and luxury hotels.

The Los Angeles lounge, located in the newly renovated and expanded Tom Bradley International Terminal, delivers on those lofty goals. The design, furniture and accommodations feel more out of a luxury hotel or private club, than an airport lounge. The food is worthy of a Michelin-starred restaurant and even the bar features handcrafted, bespoke cocktails (and mocktails) inspired by the airline's different destination cities. Ingredients are fresh and homemade and some of the liquors are barreled and aged in-house. A foodie-worthy buffet is served, along with an extensive a la carte menu featuring Middle Eastern, Californian and International selections with fresh local, sustainably and ethically sourced seasonal produce. The staff (all of whom have undergone a rigorous screening and training process) provides a First Class level of service on the ground.

The airline has a daily, direct flight from Los Angeles to Abu Dhabi and the new lounge is for the exclusive use of the Business and First Class passengers, sorry guests, on that flight. It may also be used by the airline's Platinum, Gold and Silver-status guests and those with Platinum and Gold status on Etihad's partner airlines (Alitalia, Air Serbia, Air Seychelles, airberlin, Jet Airways and NIKI). Etihad has one daily, direct flight from Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and Washington, D.C. to Abu Dhabi with two flights per day from New York. They also offer three flights a week from Dallas / Fort Worth.

The opening of the new lounge at LAX allows Etihad to offer a seamless luxury travel experience from gate to gate for its premium flyers. The Los Angeles lounge joins Etihad's existing premium lounges in New York and Washington, D.C. The airline has 15 lounges around the world including one within the US Customs Pre-clearance area in Abu Dhabi.
