Fort Lauderdale Is Fastest-Growing Airport According to OAG Study

Fort Lauderdale is the fastest-growing North American hub, according to the latest North America’s Fastest Growing Airports 2018 report from OAG, an air travel intelligence company.

That city grew 11 percent, or 2 million seats, over a 12-month period, with growth primarily driven by low-cost carriers.

Newark was the second fastest-growing hub airport in the region, with 8 percent growth and 1.4 million new departing seats. Orlando International Airport finished third with an increase of 7 percent in seat capacity. The fastest-growing midsize airport was Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport while the second fastest-growing midsize airport was Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

John Grant, senior analyst of OAG, said low-cost carriers are driving exceptional demand and are the biggest contributors to airport growth in North America. He said these carriers have revolutionized the way leisure and business travelers get around and have opened up additional access to key connecting points such as Fort Lauderdale and Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky.
