VERDICT This dog-friendly hotel has a contemporary design and excellent city location. Its appeal is strong for all kinds of travelers, and its modern guest rooms have the latest technology sealing the deal for road warriors.

BACKGROUND This hotel is within blocks of the Canadian capital’s main buildings and offices making this a great spot for government visitors and those interested in exploring the capital. There has been no better time to come to Canada than now given that the country is celebrating its 150th anniversary, and the capital is the best spot to begin the celebration. Each evening, a sound and light show in both English and French is performed against the backdrop of Parliament, and each Wednesday morning, there is yoga on the Parliament lawn.

WHERE IS IT? Just about 30 minutes from the airport, this hotel is convenient to dining, shopping, and business. It is also at the entrance point of the new Kontinuum underground multimedia experience, which takes advantage of the city’s new underground metro system (still under construction) to create a temporary, new age, sci-fi-type of visitor experience. It’s quite impressive while also giving a unique glimpse into how subway systems are built.

WHAT’S IT LIKE? The lobby is bright with natural light. Staffers are welcoming and spend a great deal of time with guests as they check them in and provide concierge service simultaneously. With swiveling computer screens, they can show off some of the best restaurants and sights Ottawa has to offer on the screen.

ROOM FACILITIES Towering nearly two dozen floors, the modern rooms have patterned carpeting and rich red cushioned armchairs by the panoramic windows. Air conditioning is strong, and the king or paired queen beds are topped with thick mattresses and a quartet of oversized pillows.

On either side of the bed are easy power outlets, speaker phones, and iPod docking stations. Flat-screen cable TVs are mounted on the walls facing the beds above long desks with nearly a dozen types of power outlets including USBs and connecting cables that sync up devices with the TV screen. Coffeemakers, safes, and full-length mirrors are located in the closets. Bathrooms offer bright mirrors with excellent lighting and convenient storage space that has towels and scented toiletry products kept tucked away.

Other perks include glass shower stalls with excellent water pressure, hairdryers, and make up mirrors. Club level guests enjoy daily access for complimentary breakfast, all-day refreshments, and evening snacks plus an honor bar. Guests have the option to forego housekeeping on stays of two nights or more in exchange for a daily stash of Marriott Rewards points or a food and beverage credit.

There’s also a wine tasting table hosted by the hotel’s sommelier, and the exhibition kitchen keeps guests entertained while meals are being prepared. The culinary team does its best to stock as many local ingredients and products as possible. The all-hours room service menu follows the same farm-to-table protocol.

LEISURE FACILITIES An all-hours fitness center features modern equipment, and reception is happy to show off the most panoramic jogging trails in the area. An indoor saltwater swimming pool provides the perfect spot for aquatic refreshment, which is ideal on cold Ottawa winter days. Ask at reception to make appointments for in-room massage and beauty treatments.

Delta is in close proximity to the nearby Marriott and Sheraton hotels, both of which are part of the larger Marriott International family meaning that conferences can schedule events and host guests at all three with ease.
