Icelandair celebrates 80 years of aviation with its newest hand-painted livery – Vatnajökull. This is the carriers second custom livery – the first, Hkla Aurora, shared another one of Iceland’s unique features – the Northern Lights.

World’s First Glacier Plane - Vatnajökull

Inside the aircraft, the carrier has added blue ambient lighting, headrests with ice white and brilliant turquoise, and serving carts, and complimentary food and beverage will offer a glacier design.

Birkir Hólm Guðnason, CEO at Icelandair comments, “We are thrilled to share Vatnajokull with our passengers and know they will enjoy this unique on-board glacier experience. Icelandair is committed to giving our customers a refreshing Icelandic travel experience and hope to further inspire them by providing the opportunity to travel in one of Iceland’s most famous glaciers. We look forward to welcoming you aboard our newest livery for a little taste of Iceland and time well-travelled the Icelandic way.”

Vatnajökull is a glacier located in the southeast Iceland known to host three active volcanoes under the surface and covers 8% of the country’s land mass.

With its vast size – 8,100-8,300 sq km, this glacier is considered one of the seven natural wonders of Europe.
