Hailed as a “major transformation” of its food menu, LATAM Airlines Group has announced Economy cabin passengers will experience a “first-of-a-kind dining concept” that will feature more food options at no additional cost on its long-haul international flights of seven hours plus.

“More than 300 new dishes have been created to serve an average of 14,000 passengers on 64 flights per day,” said Claudia Sender, Senior Vice-President Clients, LATAM Airlines Group. Currently available to onboard flights to and from Chile, the new menu will be rolled out to the airline group’s international network by the end of 2017, she said.

Addressing a group gathered at LATAM’s Santiago headquarters, Nov.7, to experience its new menu at a lunchtime food tasting, Sender said Latin American ingredients and international cuisine will be showcased. Besides improved food quality, Economy cabin passengers presented with menus for lunch or dinner will have three meal choices, including a hot dish, vegetarian meal or lighter cold option—all accompanied by drinks services and a sweet snack. For breakfast, two options will be available. Further, a newly designed round plate replaces the traditional in-flight tray to accommodate the choices of individual gourmet dishes that are “50 percent bigger with fewer peripheral elements,” Sender said.

“At LATAM, we are committed to offering our passengers an unrivalled travel experience and they tell us that onboard dining is one of the most important differentiators. That’s why, we embarked on a 16-month journey to develop a unique culinary experience that offers unparalleled quality, comfort and variety,” Sender said.

Dinner and lunch options for Economy passengers include Latin American, international and vegetarian dishes ranging from “Slow-cooked beef brisket with corn pudding, sautéed asparagus and cherry tomatoes” and “Spinach-ricotta cannelloni with creamy saffron sauce and roasted red pepper coulis” to a “Roast chicken cold plate with quinoa bites, fava beans and mixed greens with yogurt-sesame dressing.” Breakfast choices include a “Ham and cheese croissant,” “Crepes filled with apple and caramelized peach” and “Waffles with dulce de leche, cashews and orange.”
