Marriott Rewards, United MileagePlus launch ‘RewardsPlus’
Marriott Rewards and United MileagePlus have joined forces to create a new loyalty program, RewardsPlus.
Under the new program, Marriott Rewards Platinum Elite members will be MileagePlus Premier Silver status, and United Global Services, Premier 1K, Premier Platinum and Premier Gold members will be Marriott Rewards Gold Elite status. The new reciprocal statuses will be effective starting January 31, 2014.
Marriott’s Gold Elite status offering will include lounge access at JW Marriott, Renaissance hotels, Marriott hotels and the Autograph collection, room upgrades when available, complimentary high-speed Internet access, 25 percent point bonus on Marriott stays, priority late check-out and a one-to-one transfer rate of MileagePlus miles into Marriott Rewards points.
The United Premier Silver status includes complimentary access to Economy Plus seating, complimentary premier upgrades on domestic flights, premier access travel services such as designated ticket counter check-in lines, priority security lines and priority boarding and baggage handling, one complimentary checked bag and a 25 percent bonus on United flights. The new status will also let members transfer miles into points at a one-to-one transfer rate.
In August, Marriott Rewards members and United MileagePlus members will get added 20 percent value when they transfer points into miles such as additional miles and travel packages. MileagePlus members will also have the option to convert their miles into Marriott Rewards points. A 10 percent bonus will be awarded when miles are converted into Marriott Rewards travel packages.
