This summer, customers that travel internationally out of Atlanta Hartsfield and JFK will test new biometric boarding and exit technology.  Delta and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) have partnered to test new biometric exit immigration procedures and technologies.  The new technology is intended to  give CBP an enhanced ability to document when visitors depart the U.S.

Delta Airlines test facial recognition

John Wagner, Deputy Executive Assistant Commissioner, Office of Field Operations, CBP states, “We are happy to be working with partners, like Delta, to expand the use of facial biometric technology to create an innovative, more efficient travel experience for passengers.”

Vision-Box (at JFK) and NEC (in Atlanta) are both providing technology to enable the biometric tracking.

NEC Corporate of America Senior Vice President Raffie Beroukhim said, “Utilization of biometrics is perhaps the only means of balancing increased safety and security with passenger convenience. As a leading provider of such technologies, NEC is proud of the partnership with Delta and CBP in Atlanta, the progress made to date, and further potential in improving both safety and passenger convenience.”

The race is on to speed up passengers experiences in the airport.  Delta and the CBP will test the new technology this summer to speed up boarding process and track customers exiting the country.
