Qatar Qmiles and BA Avios confirm link-up details
Qatar Airways has announced the start date of the link-up of its Qmiles programme with BA's Avios programme.
On its Privilege Club website, the Gulf carrier states "Qatar Airways partners with British Airways" from September 2.
It was previously announced that Qatar will officially join the Oneworld alliance in October, and even that was earlier than expected (see news, June 21).
Qatar's announcement reads: "Effective September 2, 2013 Qatar Airways and British Airways have entered into a reciprocal frequent flyer agreement, wherein our Privilege Club member will now have the opportunity to earn Qmiles on all flights operated by British Airways.
"Moreover, effective October 1, 2013 Privilege Club members will also be able to redeem their Qmiles to avail of Award tickets on all British Airways flights.
"For complete information on the Mileage Earning opportunity please click here and to redeem your Qmiles for Awards tickets on our Partner Airlines please click here."
Business Traveller asked BA for a comment and a spokesman confirmed the move.
He said: "From September 2, members of the British Airways Executive Club will be able to earn Avios points when flying on Qatar Airways.
"Qatar Airways is joining the Oneworld alliance later this year, and the two airlines are cementing their partnership with this reciprocal frequent flyer arrangement."
Note that tier points will only be able to be earned when Qatar Airways joins Oneworld. No date has been given for this, but it is believed to be October.

`Moreover, effective 1st October, 2013 Privilege Club members will also be able to redeem their Qmiles to avail of Award tickets on all British Airways flights.`
From what I have read on various threads in the forum, they should likewise say, Good Luck in trying to redeem for any dates or flights you actually want!

I like the photos in the article as they show BA`s `New` First cabin with QR`s new Business Class on their 787, and if one was feeling cynical, it sort of says to me, BA`s `New` First is comparable to QR`s Business Class, which of course, is what so many posters in the Forum have said in various ways about BA`s First; i.e. being an excellent Business Class product.

Oops. Freudian slip. I think I better edit that.

I note that you can earn Avios when flying QR from 2 September 2013.
What is the position with regards to tier points? Would you earn w.e.f. 2 September 2013 OR only when QR formally joins OneWorld?

I asked and was told
"Tier points can be earned when Qatar become a full member of oneworld."
I've added this point into the piece. Thank you

I hope UL make a similar announcement soon - I have some flights in November with them which I would love to credit to BA!

If flying with Qatar Airways before it formally enters Oneworld, as well as giving Avios miles, will the carrier honour BA gold (emerald) cards for lounge access?

Should be interesting to see 2 of worlds most arrogant carriers joining hands to put bums on seats... let's hope they don't put passengers off if they fail to sync their communication to all customers....
