Amsterdam Schiphol airport has completed the renovations of its Holland Boulevard public area, designed to “meet the needs of passengers wishing to step out of the travel process for a while”.

The 24-hour space, located between departure lounges 2 and 3, features a renovated Rijksmuseum annex, serving as an introduction to 17th- century Dutch painting, and Nemo Science Museum, which “challenges everyone, young and old, to discover how fascinating and relevant science and technology are”.

There is also a new library area, with around 500 books by well-known Dutch authors, translated into more than 40 languages, and touchscreens showing “the best of Dutch culture”.

The Holland Boulevard is located behind security “in the part of the intercontinental travellers”, and is aimed at transit passengers who do not have time to leave the airport.

The area also houses a number of shops by brands including Swatch, Rituals and Taste from the Lowlands, as well as a Privium airside lounge and KLM transfer desk.

Amsterdam Schiphol recently set a record for one-day passenger traffic, with over 230,000 customers travelling through the airport on July 31.

Current expansion plans call for a new pier to open in 2019, followed by a brand new terminal building in 2023.
