United brings back the stroopwafel, releases Polaris cookbook
You won’t find the recipe for the stroopwafel in United Airlines’ new cookbook, but the popular Dutch treat is making a return to the airline’s domestic flights in 2019.
Today reports that the caramel-filled, waffle-style cookie will be served on flights departing before 0945.
United began serving the cookies from the Netherlands to economy class travellers in 2016, but replaced them with a maple-flavored cookie in 2018.
Meanwhile United also has released a new cookbook based on its inflight meal service — and it’s not a work of satire.
The $29.99 United Polaris Cookbook is billed as “a collection of recipes inspired by the United Polaris onboard dining experience” and includes more than 40 recipes, such as coconut soup with samba oelek chicken, created by the airline’s executive chefs, Gerry McLoughlin and Gerry Gulli.
Note the “inspired by” caveat: not all of the dishes in the cookbook are served onboard.
Partial proceeds from sales of the cookbook will benefit the Trotter Project, a mentoring programme for aspiring chefs.
