Alaska Now Accepting VeriFLY
Free and secure app streamlines international arrivals with digital verification of COVID-19 testing status
Alaska Airlines has begun accepting the VeriFLY digital health passport app, which allows international passengers bound for the US expedited check-in and COVID-19 testing verification prior to departure.
As of Jan. 26, all inbound airline passengers entering the United States are required to show negative COVID-19 test results prior to travel, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
VeriFLY lets passengers download proof of their negative COVID-19 test, or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19, in addition to a health attestation form in the app to help optimize the document verification process prior to boarding.
Use of the VeriFLY app, which was initially tested by American Airlines in December, was later extended to all the carrier’s airports in the US for outbound travelers to international destinations. In addition, American’s joint business and Oneworld partner British Airways has launched a trial of the app on flights between London and its US gateways.
VeriFLY is one of a number of digital health passports which are currently in trials or will soon be tested out by airlines and other travel industry providers.
Although proof of a negative COVID-19 test is mandatory for travelers to enter into the country, use of VeriFLY is not. Alaska’s passengers will be able to opt out of the app but will still be obligated to present the essential health documents as required by the CDC’s order.
