American Adds New Route from Columbia, SC to NYC

American Airlines will begin nonstop service to New York/LaGuardia from Columbia, S.C., Metropolitan Airport beginning May 3.

The daily service will depart Columbia at 6:55 a.m. and arrive in New York at 9 a.m. The return flight will depart New York at 9:29 p.m. and arrive in Columbia at 11:36 p.m.

The flight times were designed, according to the carrier, to allow business travelers to get to New York in the morning to conduct business and return the same day if needed. Mike Gula, executive director of the airport, said the route has been under discussion with American for some time. The airport is also served by Delta, which offers nonstop service to New York and Atlanta; United Airlines, with nonstop service to Chicago, Houston and Washington Dulles; and Via Airlines, which begins nonstop service to Orlando on Dec. 21.
