Austrian Airlines to resume flights to New York JFK and Montreal

The carrier says the additional capacity is driven by an anticipated increase summer vacation travel

Austrian Airlines has announced that, beginning in May, it will resume flights to New York JFK and Montreal. The carrier plans to offer three flights per week to both destinations from its hub in Vienna.

Austrian is already offering five weekly flights to New York’s Newark airport, so addition of the JFK service will increases the carrier’s flights to the New York area to eight per week.

Last month the airline outlined plans to resume flights to over 20 destinations this summer, driven by anticipated increased demand for vacation travel. Among the long-haul routes on the schedule, the carrier included resumption of services to Bangkok, Chicago and Tokyo.

“With five destinations in North America and three in Asia, including Tokyo and Bangkok, our long-haul services are back on a slight climb this summer,” said Austrian’s CCO Michael Trestl.

“Unfortunately, however, we are still a long way from reaching cruising altitude,” Trestl added. “We hope that a rapid increase in the vaccination rate and a corresponding relaxation of travel restrictions will give us a further boost in the future.”
