Brussels Airlines To Fly Again in June

Brussels Airlines has announced the resumption of a limited flight schedule from its hub at Brussels Airport beginning June 15. The airline says it will offer a downsized summer schedule, gradually adding services to reach 59 destinations in 33 countries in Europe, Africa and the US with up to 240 weekly flights by the end of August.

The airline says the additional services will be determined based on market demand for both leisure and business travel and subject to ongoing travel restrictions. The schedule represents about 30 percent of Brussels Airlines’ originally planned summer schedule in Europe and 40 percent of its long-haul summer program.

In the months to come, the carrier says it plans to further expand its network beyond the summer with a revised schedule to be announced at the beginning of June.

The return of Brussels Airlines flight operations comes after an interruption of 12 weeks due to the coronavirus pandemic. The news comes as air travel capacity has begun to show modest gains from its low point in April.

The airline says its flexible reservations policy developed in response to the crisis will continue; customers who had already booked a flight can still rebook it to another date and/or destination without change fees and can postpone their travel plans until Dec. 31, 2021.

In preparation for the restart, the airline is one of many carriers which have adopted measures to protect customers and staff during travel, such as the use of disinfectants and the use of face masks. Several other measures are being evaluated together with the authorities and aviation experts.
