Canadian Airline Swoops in for Budget Flights to San Diego, Las Vegas and Beyond

Swoop bolsters sweeping growth plan with flights from Canada’s colder reaches to southerly tourism hot spots

This week, Swoop, a year-old low-cost airline launched by WestJet , announced new non-stop service to San Diego from two Canadian airports in October.

As part of its winter schedule, Swoop  has added thrice weekly service between Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and three-times weekly service between Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) and San Diego International Airport (SAN). The non-stop San Diego routes are offered Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

San Diego is one of a few flight schedules offered by Swoop starting this summer and fall.  Another is Los Cabos, Mexico.

WestJet launched Swoop in 2018 as a low-cost airline option with flights to cities in Canada, the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean. In the U.S., Swoop also offers flights to Las Vegas, Phoenix, and the Florida cities of Orlando, Tampa and Fort Lauderdale.

One-way flights between San Diego and either Abbotsford or Edmonton will start at roughly $120, with service beginning Oct. 4. Travelers can book flights between the three cities through April 25, 2020, at flyswoop.com.

San Diego joins Los Cabos, Mexico and other warm destinations for Swoop’s 2019 winter schedule, which offers 28 winter getaway routes to chilled Canadians.

Swoop will be operating a fleet of 10 10 Boeing 737-NG 800s by the end of the year. Flights are now available for booking through April 25, 2020.

Swoop currently operates a fleet of seven new Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft, equipped with in-seat power adapters and accessible Wi-Fi.

Swoop’s new Kelowna non-stop service to Las Vegas was launched late last month in time for the 2019 summer schedule.

Flight WO826 departs Kelowna International Airport (YLW) at 2:35 p.m. and arrives at McCarran International Airport (LAS) at 5:08 p.m.

With nearly 1.5 million visitors to Las Vegas annually, Canada represents the city’s largest source of international visitors.

Since June 20, 2018, the ultra-low-cost airline grew from five to sixteen destinations, spanning four countries including the U.S., Jamaica and Mexico. As part of its 2019 summer schedule, the airline also recently expanded its domestic network to include London, ON and Kelowna, BC.

This fall, the airline will be launching twice-weekly service from Edmonton International Airport (YEG) and Winnipeg Richardson International Airport (YWG) to Los Cabos International Airport (SJD) starting November 2, 2019 and November 17, 2019, respectively.

Swoop’s service in Winnipeg will increase from 16 to 26 weekly flights at the height of the winter schedule, 14 of which will serve transborder and international destinations. Winnipeg will enjoy new service to Puerto Vallarta and Los Cabos, Mexico; Las Vegas, Nevada; Mesa, Arizona; and Orlando, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa Bay, Florida.

Edmonton will add service to Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, Los Cabos and Cancun, Mexico.

New sun-service from London, Ontario includes Cancun, Mexico; Las Vegas, Nevada; and Orlando, Florida.
