Delta Expands Electrostatic Spraying to All Flights

Delta Air Lines has announced that as of this week, every flight at every Delta airport is being sanitized using electrostatic sprayers. The pre-cleaning sanitizing procedure was first started in February in cabins on US-bound Delta flights from Asia. Since then, the airline says it has been “aggressively expanding” the process to now include all flights.

Electrostatic sprayers electrically charge and disperse a fine mist of a high-grade liquid disinfectant that clings to surfaces such as seats, armrests, tray tables and other high-touch areas throughout the aircraft interior. The disinfectant is highly effective against many communicable diseases, including coronaviruses, but once applied, it’s immediately safe for customers and crew.

Following the sanitization process, cleaning crews complete an extensive checklist of cleaning procedures using the disinfectant to wipe down personal and common areas of the cabin. Delta says it’s also using the same procedure to sanitize reservation centers, employee work and break areas in airports, pilot and flight attendant lounges, and office spaces.

In addition to expanding the electrostatic spraying procedure, Delta has also announced a number of other COVID-19-related initiatives during the pandemic. Last week the airline said it cutting seating capacity through June 30,blocking seats to reduce the overall number of passengers in each cabin.
