Delta Air Lines has announced extension of status benefits for its Skymiles Medallion members into 2023. The airline said the changes are part of a series of loyalty program enhancements “designed to give the airline’s most loyal customers more flexibility as travel resumes.”
The new policies further extend certain benefits on a loyalty program that had already seen a number of changes last year, which the airline said were designed to reassure frequent Delta fliers about the continuation of their points and status.
Under the new rules, Medallion members will automatically see their status extended through to Jan. 31, 2023. In addition, Medallion Qualification Miles will roll over to 2022 for 2023 Medallion Status qualification.
To reward those Delta customers who have returned to travel in 2021, Medallion Members who are earning status in the current year will receive “elevated benefits” for the 2022 Medallion Year.
These benefits include being cleared for complimentary upgrades ahead of those at the same tier level whose status was automatically extended.
The program is also extending all Global and Regional Upgrade Certificates for travel through to Jan. 31, 2023, and Skymiles members can continue to earn status on award travel until Dec. 31, 2022.
Delta has also announced new rules for Basic Economy which will allow travelers booked in that fare class to make changes to their flights via delta.com or the Fly Delta app, for travel scheduled up to Dec. 31, 2021.
“After an unprecedented year, we are thrilled to see so many of our loyal members back in the skies,” said Dwight James, SVP of customer engagement and loyalty and CEO of Delta Vacations.
“However, we know traveling looks different than it did before the pandemic,” James added. “No matter what your situation has been throughout the past year, we want to do all we can to make your return to travel seamless and rewarding, with the assurance that Delta is listening and responding.”
