Delta Seeks Minneapolis- St. Paul to Shanghai Route

Delta airlines is seeking a new route for their Airbus A350-900.

The airline has submitted a proposal to the U.S. Department of Transportation seeking to offer service between Minneapolis- St. Paul and Shanghai beginning in 2020.

“We are honored to be proposing the first-ever nonstop flight between Minneapolis-St. Paul and China as we continue to expand across the Pacific,” said Ed Bastian, Delta’s Chief Executive Officer.

Commercial air service between the two countries is governed by existing agreements. At this time there is availability on the routes that isn’t being utilized which Delta is hoping to garner.

Brian Ryks, Executive Director and CEO of the Metropolitan Airports Commission states:

“Direct service to China would be a tremendous benefit to the Minnesota business and hospitality communities. By seeking federal approval to fly the route, Delta is once again reaffirming its ongoing commitment to the Twin Cities and creating opportunities for people and businesses throughout the region.”
