A new private island in the Maldives redefines the deluxe all-inclusive experience
Emerald Collection’s Emerald Maldives Resort & SPA opens in early December as an all-inclusive offering, which is rare in this part of the world. However, the benefits are unmistakable, especially in an archipelago where every resort is its own private island.
Unusual to any private island, the 120-villa Emerald Maldives houses a wraparound reef which means guests are never more than a few footsteps away from an encounter with exotic fish, turtles or manta rays. The 120-villa resort is located on the Raa Atoll, known for having some of the most diverse marine life in the world and it boasts one of the largest lagoons in the Maldives.
The all-inclusive focus allows guests to dine at any of the four resorts’ restaurants as often as they wish during their stay. They have unlimited access to the villa mini bar, which is fully stocked daily with premium spirits. And guests can use all non-motorized water sports amenities at no additional cost.
As for dining, Emerald covers cuisines from every continent. It offers the first and only South American restaurant in the Maldives at Amazonico, with dishes such as ceviche with passion fruit dressing and fresh selections from the huge open fire grill at center stage. Emerald Maldives offers an extensive menu of water activities. Guests can learn to dive and get their PADI certified as well. The resort’s Dolphin Kids Club is one of the largest in the Maldives with its own zip wire that journey’s from one side of the island to the other and welcomes kids from the age of 3-12 on a complimentary basis.
The Emerald SPA, can be found a secluded corner of the private island, offering a range of Bailnese and Thai treatments across 10 air-conditioned treatment rooms. It also features a Turkish-style hammam, sauna and jacuzzi. Elemis treatments are available for guests seeking a sensory wellness experience. The Yoga Pavilion brings breath lessons and sunrise yoga sessions. The resort has a sports and fitness facility and two large tennis courts, two paddle courts and an air-conditioned state-of-the-art Technogym. Personal trainers are available.
Sustainability comes to mind in the resort’s use of long-lasting Langhi Langhi leaves to build the canopies. Each villa employs solar panels to produce hot water. In a bid to reduce single-use plastic waste, the resort uses paper straws as well as glass bottles and the island is home to a recyclable water irrigation system and composting facility.
