Finnair has announced it is offering complimentary COVID-19 insurance for all existing and new bookings for passengers departing from Finland between Nov. 3, 2020, and March 31, 2021.

Any Finnair customer diagnosed with COVID-19 when traveling can file a claim for any coronavirus-related medical and quarantine expenses incurred at their destination.

• Up to €50,000 ($59,000) in medical and repatriation expenses

• The price of a coronavirus test if positive

• Quarantine expenses of up to €100 ($118) per day for a maximum of 14 days

• A new return flight to Finland if the original flight is missed due to a coronavirus-related illness

The coverage is complimentary with all Finnair tickets booked through the carrier. Finnair Corona Cover is also included in the Aurinkomatkat package trips and Finnair Holidays bookings when the destination is outside Finland.

According to the airline, passengers who fall ill during travel should contact Finnair’s insurance partner for a consultation and approval for any medical or other expenses before using local services. Expenses will be paid directly to the local service providers as long as the customer first contacts and receives approval from the insurance partner – this means that customers won’t have to pay for the services themselves or carry any risk for the costs.

In an effort to reassure travelers about health coverage, COVID-19 insurance has been introduced by several airlines this year, including Virgin Atlantic, Etihad and Emirates.
