Hawaiian Airlines Loyalty Members Can Swap Miles for Tests
Pre-travel at-home test kits are available for HawaiianMiles members for 14,000 miles, including expedited shipping and processing
Hawaiian Airlines has announced a partnership with Vault Health – one of Hawaii’s official COVID-19 testing partners – to allow members of the airline’s HawaiianMiles loyalty program to swap miles for pre-travel test kits.
Members can exchange 14,000 miles for an at-home COVID-19 test kit to be mailed to them. Customers then self-collect their saliva sample, guided through the process by a test supervisor on a Zoom video call.
The normal cost for the mail-in test kits is $119 and they are available for travelers of all ages. The carrier has also promised expedited shipping and processing for passengers booked on the airline, with results provided electronically within 24 hours of the tests arriving at the lab.
Hawaii’s pre-travel testing requirements have recently changed for travelers entering the state. Since Nov. 24, passengers flying to the islands using a pre-travel testing program will be required to have negative COVID-19 test results in hand prior to departure in order to avoid quarantine.
Previously, the pre-travel testing program launched in October by several airlines allowed passengers arriving from the mainland who had been tested prior to departure to upload their negative test results to a state database after arrival.
However, since the programs launched, at least 44 travelers have reportedly come to the state with pending test results who were later found to be COVID-19 positive.
“We remain dedicated to making testing for our guests as convenient and accessible as possible,” said Avi Mannis, senior vice president of marketing at Hawaiian Airlines. “So we’re incredibly pleased to extend our partnership with Vault Health to allow our HawaiianMiles members to purchase their at-home test kit with miles.”
The airline has also partnered with Worksite Labs to provide drive-through COVID-19 PCR testing near San Francisco International airport. The lab offers testing for $90 per person for results available within 36 hours, and same-day express testing for $150 per person.
