Hotel Check: Best Western Plus Arroyo Roble Hotel

Sedona, AZ

WHERE IS IT? In the heart of downtown Sedona, this hotel is within walking distance of great dining, art galleries, shopping and swimmable Oak Creek. What really sets it apart though are the unhindered views of the surreal red rock formations of the nearby mountains. This is one of the first hotels you encounter when driving in from Slide Rock State Park and the Coconino National Forest.

WHAT’S IT LIKE? Best Western Plus properties offer upper-midscale amenities, and this hotel ticked off all the boxes with perks like free breakfast, fast wireless Internet, and Keurig coffee machines in guest rooms. As expected, COVID-19 precautions meant that there were some adjustments to the hotel’s normal operation including regular cleaning of the pool and fitness center and plastic barriers at reception. The staff in the small lobby was welcoming, but I spent most of my time at this hotel enjoying the exceptional views from my balcony.

ROOM FACILITIES The rooms are bright with colorful furnishings and comfortable beds. I really liked that rooms come with a refrigerator, microwave and Keurig coffeemaker. Bedside power outlets are convenient, but the iHome alarm clock and charging station on the desk were especially appreciated. A large flat-screen TV faced the bed, and full-length mirrors made the room seem bigger. I chose one of the red rock-facing rooms to be able to enjoy my furnished balcony. This is the tallest building in Sedona (it’s only five floors), and guests can opt for red rock or city views. Bathrooms are stocked with Pharmacopia toiletries including eco-friendly dispensers in the shower. Best Western’s We Care Clean protocols are in full force here with hand sanitizer stations among the most visible. Guests taking road trips with their pets can request a dog-friendly room. Several villas and timeshare units are located between the main hotel and the mountains, and guests can book one of them if they want more space. North Signature and North Signature Plus rooms add a fireplace.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS There is no dining option onsite although complimentary breakfast is offered. During the pandemic, the hot breakfast buffet is on hold, but I appreciated the grab-and-go breakfast bags at reception with bottled water, fruit, muffin and a granola bar. There are so many dining outlets and bars within walking distance, a guest is unlikely to go hungry.

LEISURE FACILITIES The hotel has a swimming pool facing the red rocks and an indoor pool. Guests can also swim in Oak Creek, which is located behind the hotel, and enjoy access to the Arroyo Roble Clubhouse with pools, whirlpools, steam room, sauna and workout facilities.

BUSINESS AND MEETING FACILITIES A computer and printer are available for guests to use, and wireless Internet (even on my balcony) was fast and free.

VERDICT Uptown Sedona’s shopping within walking distance and the beautiful red rock views make this a great home base for a visit.
