Hotel Check: Hyatt House Shenzhen Airport

by Business Traveler

December 31, 2019

PROPERTY HIGHLIGHTS: Connected to the airport via an interior shopping mall, this hotel is the ideal spot for those with early morning flights or late-night arrivals.

WHAT’S IT LIKE? This is a modern hotel with all the perks of the Hyatt House brand including free breakfast each morning. Hyatt actually got its start with Hyatt House, which was the name of its first hotel near Los Angeles airport. Today, Hyatt House has reached its 100th hotel milestone with properties around the world. The nostalgia of it being Hyatt’s first hotel, and now one of its global brands, is not lost here with large-scale signage leading to the hotel and sharing details on the company’s history. The fleet of metal paper airplanes flying through the lobby above the lounge area is a clever artistic touch.

HOW MANY ROOMS? 112 rooms and suites

WHERE IS IT? Connected to the international airport, this hotel shares the same building as the Hyatt Place. Both operate as a joint hotel sharing reception, the restaurant, bar, and lounge albeit with different accommodation styles. The metro station is also convenient to the hotel entrance for those wanting to go into town, and a free shuttle runs travelers to the airport ferry port with regular service to Hong Kong Airport, Macau, and other nearby places.

ROOM FACILITIES: Large and comfortable, these are signature examples of all Hyatt House hotels. They come with spacious bedrooms, separate living areas with a flat-screen TV dividing the two, a kitchenette with dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, and fully stocked with cooking and dishware. A dining table with four bar stools is great as a work desk or for eating. Rooms have excellent views of the airport and runways although soundproofing is excellent thanks to triple glazing. Blackout shades are ideal for those with jet lag, too. Bathrooms sport large glass shower stalls, ample vanity space, and Kenet MD toiletries. Wireless Internet is free for all guests, and I was able to connect my VPN so I could access websites like Gmail and Google.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS: Breakfast is included for all guests and includes cooked-to-order omelets and Chinese noodle bowls. Lunch and dinner are also served here or can be delivered via room service including a wide range of options. The Dan Dan noodles are especially delicious. The bar sells a variety of snacks, all-day drinks and cocktails, and barista-prepared coffee. On the top floor, a second restaurant and lounge area serve a variety of cocktails and light meals with impressive views of the airport. For those that want to venture into the shopping mall area that connects the hotel with the airport, there are plenty of dining and shopping venues.

LEISURE FACILITIES: An indoor swimming pool and modern fitness center are available with the latter open 24 hours a day.

BUSINESS AND MEETING FACILITIES: Meeting space is available for guests although most travelers are here for only one night. Work stations with Internet-equipped computers and a printer are also available.

VERDICT: For the convenience factor alone, this hotel is a winner for being connected to the airport. Its value-focused price point and oversized rooms with kitchenettes make it popular for those that want flexibility and space. Be sure to order something from reception so that the robot can pay you a visit. It’s quite the experience!

PRICE:  Internet rates for a traditional room start at $69 on the random dates we checked.
