Hyatt House Opens in Tallahassee’s Railroad Square

The 120-room extended-stay hotel is located near the Florida Capitol and two universities

The Hyatt House Tallahassee Capitol – University has opened in the Railroad Square Art District of Tallahassee, FL. The five-story, extended-stay property offers 120 guestrooms, including 77 apartment-style suites with fully equipped kitchens and separate living and sleeping areas.

Guest amenities include a full bar and free hot breakfast with made-to-order omelets. The hotel also features a large patio with outdoor bar service, an outdoor pool, a fitness room and an 846-square-foot meeting space.

The Railroad Square Art District is a hub for art, culture and creative small businesses housed in renovated historic warehouses. Nearby is the state Capitol, as well as Florida A&M University and Florida State University.

The property follows Hyatt Corp.’s safety protocols, which includes sanitizer stations throughout the hotel; more frequent cleaning of public spaces and guestroom surfaces; employee temperature checks; removal of certain high-touch items from guestrooms; face mask requirements in indoor public areas; revised maximum capacity guidelines in elevators, fitness centers and other areas; reconfiguration of meeting room set-ups; contactless room service; and mobile check-in and checkout.

“We think the demand for travel in the back half of 2021 is going to be extremely strong,” said Stephen Wendell, CEO of Charleston, SC-based Mountain Shore Properties, which developed the property. “The fact is that some aspects of business travel can’t be done virtually.”

In particular, demand for extended-stay properties has been strong during the pandemic, according to John Schultzel, chief growth officer for Portland, Maine-based Olympia Hotel Management, which manages the hotel. “It was important to open this new property in the first quarter with an eye to securing bookings for the third quarter and beyond,” he said.

As part of its new hotel offer, the World of Hyatt loyalty program is offering members the opportunity to earn 500 bonus points for qualifying nights at Hyatt House Tallahassee Capitol – University through May 3.
