Hyatt has announced the opening of the Thompson Central Park New York on West 56th Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. The 587-room hotel is the third property to open under the Thompson lifestyle brand in Manhattan.
Located near the south side of Central Park, the hotel occupies the space of the former Parker New York. It features newly designed interiors, including a redesigned lobby and public spaces by architect Thomas Juul-Hansen and contemporary rooms and suites by Stonehill Taylor.
The hotel’s ‘music-centric’ vibe pays homage to the hotel’s history as a home to musicians and actors who played at the city’s top music venues. The opening brings back the Burger Joint dining venue and introduces Standing Room Only (SRO), a new cocktail bar in the lobby.
In spring 2022, the hotel promises to add more facilities including a vaulted bar space connecting the atrium to both 56th and 57th streets, an intimate event space and the opening of Upper Stories – a collection of 174 high-floor rooms that offer expansive views of Central Park and high-end amenities.
“We’re honored to introduce the world to Thompson Central Park New York and welcome travelers to a stunning new hotel in the heart of New York City,” Matt Slippoy, general manager of Thompson Central Park New York, commented.
“Together with our partners across design, culinary, retail and more, we’re thrilled to provide New Yorkers and travelers with an unparalleled hospitality experience steps from Central Park and iconic cultural institutions, performing arts theaters, Broadway and more of what makes New York City a world-class destination.”
The other two Thompson properties are located in Lower Manhattan – The Beekman and Gild Hall. In January 2020 Hyatt opened the first Thompson property in Washington DC, and in the last two years has added a total of four properties across the South – the latest one in Savannah, GA this August – with two more new properties coming, one to Atlanta this year and the other to Houston in 2023.
