IHG Opens First Avid Hotel in Mexico

The property, located in the state of Zacatecas, is the first of three new-builds under the Avid brand in the country

Intercontinental Hotels Group has premiered its midscale Avid brand in Mexico. The 100-room Avid Hotel Fresnillo is located in the north central Mexican state of Zacatecas, about 40 minutes from Zacatecas City.

The new-build property features free continental breakfast, a gym, and a 24-hour market. Each guestroom offers “best-in-class mattress,” a dedicated workspace and 55-inch TVs that can connect to entertainment on personal devices via IHG Studio.

IHG introduced the midscale Avid brand in 2017, and currently has over 200 hotels under development with the majority of the pipeline in the US. However according to IHG, there are currently two other Avid hotels under construction in the Mexican cities of Tijuana and Guanajuato, with ten more properties expected to open in the country “in the next few years.”

“We are excited about our first property to open in Mexico along with our continued momentum and growth of Avid hotels across the Americas region,” said Karen Gilbride, vice president, Avid hotels.
