Kimpton Debuts in Mexico

The 78-room Kimpton Aluna Hotel, located in Tulum on the Mayan Riviera, is set to open Dec. 18

The first property in Mexico to open under Intercontinental Hotels Group’s Kimpton flag is set to premiere on Dec. 18. The 78-room Kimpton Aluna Hotel is located in Tulum on the southern tip of the Mayan Riviera, and will be operated by IHG partner Grupo Presidente.

The hotel, which was formerly the Aluna Hotel, features 72 rooms and six luxury suites, all of which have private terraces. The property has a restaurant and rooftop bar, two outdoor pools, a pool bar, fitness center, open-air yoga studio and business center.

The Kimpton will also operate an off-site private beach club, which guests can access via the hotel’s vintage house cars or complimentary beach cruisers.

“This opening officially establishes our brand in Mexico, and provides an incredible opportunity for us to take part in the extremely rich culture and growing market of Tulum.” Said Mike DeFrino, CEO of Kimpton. “We look forward to furthering IHG’s trusted relationship with Grupo Presidente to offer guests Kimpton’s trademark amenities and heartfelt service.”

The hotel will be joined by two more Kimpton properties in Mexico City in late 2021, and the brand has also recently opened hotels in Bangkok and Tokyo.
