Marriott Bonvoy Announces New Incentives in 2021

Program bonuses give members a 50 percent head start on elite status and lowers off-peak redemption rates

With the aim of giving “travel goals a big boost” in 2021 after the pandemic-induced downturn of 2020, Marriott Bonvoy has announced a series of incentives for its members. The changes will help elite status earners achieve the next level faster

In February, members’ accounts will get a deposit of 50 percent of the required Elite Night Credits based on their 2020 elite status, giving them a head start toward gaining elite status in 2022.

The program is also reducing the spend threshold for achieving Ambassador Elite status by 30 percent this year to $14,000 – this will return to $20,000 in 2022.

Additionally, off-peak redemption rates are being reduced globally by ten percent for all future reservations until Sept. 30, if the booking is made by Feb. 21. However the new pricing may take some time to show up in the system.

Looking ahead, Marriott promises to open up registration for its new global promotion Better Two-gether, allowing members to earn double the number of points and Elite Night Credits for stays of two nights or more between Feb. 16 and April 27.

This year’s changes follow a host of initiatives introduced in 2020 in response to the coronavirus pandemic, including the extension of elite status earned in 2019 through Feb. 1, 2022, and a pause in points expiration until Aug.1, 2021.
