Report: British Airways to Cut More Than a Dozen Long Haul Routes

Services no longer on the summer 2021 schedule include three North American destinations – Pittsburgh, Charleston and Calgary

British Airways is reportedly planning to drop more than 15 long-haul routes in 2021. According to BBC News, the services that have been axed from the schedule include US routes launched in recent years to Pittsburgh and Charleston, as well as Calgary in Canada.

Other long haul routes that are being permanently suspended also include Seoul, Kuala Lumpur and Osaka. Flights being suspended from the summer schedule through Oct. 30 include Sydney, Bangkok and San Jose, CA.

According to news reports, internal BA communications the following routes have been permanently suspended beginning with the summer 2021 season:

Pittsburgh (PIT)

Calgary (YYC)

Charleston (CHS)

Seoul (ICN)

Durban (DUR)

Dammam (DMM)

Lima (LIM)

Osaka (KIX)

Kuala Lumpur (KUL)

Seychelles (SEZ) – last service 24th April 2021

Abu Dhabi (AUH)

Muscat (MCT)

Jeddah (JED) – short adhoc operation to continue over Hajj period in July 2021;

In a statement, British Airways said:

“We are sorry that, like other airlines, due to the current coronavirus pandemic and global travel restrictions we are operating a reduced and dynamic schedule. We will be in touch with any customers whose flights are affected and advise customers to check ba.com for the latest flight information.”
