Report from Orbitz Suggests Best Airports to be Stranded
All frequent travellers will eventually find themselves stuck at the airport for long days or even nights due to weather, mechanical breakdowns, or other problems.
How miserable that experience largely depends on which airport you find yourself marooned in.
If you’re going to be stranded at the airport, a new report from Orbitz suggests that the best place to be stuck is at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
Less than 2 per cent of flights from ATL are cancelled, but when it happens travellers can cool their heels at one of 13 airport lounges, dine at over 100 restaurants and food outlets, browse at 221 shops, and seek serenity in a virtual forest or an on-site dog park.
The airport also has one of the fastest free wifi networks in the U.S.
Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas were also ranked among the best airports for travellers to be stranded.
Of the 15 major US airports ranked, Charlotte-Douglas International Airport was deemed the worst place to become an unwilling temporary resident, with just two lounges, 36 stores, 49 food outlets, and among the slowest wifi speeds among US airports.
