Rosewood Hotels & Resorts has premiered in South America with the opening of the Rosewood São Paulo. The hotel features 160 guestrooms and suites along with 100 Private Rosewood Suites available for purchase.
The property occupies the historic Matarazzo Maternity, a former hospital that dates back to the 1920s, alongside a vertical garden tower. Located near the Avenida Paulista, Rosewood São Paulo anchors the Cidade Matarazzo, a complex of historic buildings from the early 20th century.
The 7-acre development, Brazil’s largest upcycling project, is preserving and transforming the structures into private residences, high-end stores and entertainment venues, with the focus on protecting the country’s cultural heritage and natural environment.
The Rosewood São Paulo offers six distinctive, indoor-outdoor restaurants and bars, including the elegant 24-hour menu found at Le Jardin, delicious fusion of French cuisine with touches of Brazilian gastronomy and Taraz, which highlights South American cuisine.
Other amenities include two pools, a movie theatre and a music studio. Asaya, Rosewood’s integrative wellbeing concept, is set to debut later in 2022.
In keeping with Rosewood’s guiding A Sense of Place philosophy, each element of the guest experience is inspired by the destination’s diverse culture and rich heritage. There are over 450 site-specific works of art by 57 contemporary Brazilian artists including Vik Muniz, Sandra Cinto, and Caligrapixo within the hotel.
Also on the hotel grounds, the historic Chapel of Santa Luzia is observing its 100th anniversary. The chapel has been meticulously restored to retain its ornate architecture from 1922, and is available for weddings and other “celebrations of life.”
The hotel’s construction uses 100 percent locally sourced and upcycled materials, and the property is committed to use 100 percent renewable energy within a year.
“It has been a true honor to help bring such a unique hotel project to life in one of the world’s most dynamic cities,” said managing director, Edouard Grosmangin. “The team behind Rosewood São Paulo has spent a decade on this project to ensure it honors and celebrates the heritage of the city while breathing new life into the destination.”
Rosewood Hotels & Resorts manages 29 luxury hotels, resorts and residences in 17 countries, including the recently reopened Carlyle, A Rosewood Hotel in New York City. In addition, the group also has 24 new properties under development.
