Singapore Airlines has announced that as of May 10, all passengers on Singapore Airlines and SilkAir flights must wear a face mask throughout the flight and continue to maintain social distancing measures when boarding and disembarking from a flight. The new requirements for passengers are in response to a directive issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.
In addition, passengers on flights to Singapore will also undergo a basic health assessment before boarding the aircraft, including a verbal health declaration and temperature checks.
The airline is already requiring cabin crew and pilots to have their temperatures taken before flights, to stay away from work if they are unwell, and to wear masks as well as goggles or eye visors during flights. Customers will need to bring their own face masks, the airline said in a statement.
Airlines the world over have enacted various strategies in efforts to contain the coronavirus. Specific information about Singapore Airlines’ current measures can be found here.
The airline has also updated its travel waiver policy to extend flight credits to Dec. 31, 2021. Customers who purchased a SIA or SilkAir ticket on or before March 15, 2020, for travel up to June 30, 2020, can retain the full value of the unused portion of their tickets as flight credits through the end of 2021.
As previously reported, the flight credits had been good through June 30, 2021.
Furthermore, the airline is continuing its bonus flight credits to all customers who choose to retain their tickets as flight credits. The bonus credits are based on the original cabin class:
Economy Class: SGD75 ($53)
Premium Economy Class: SGD100 ($70)
Business Class: SGD200 ($141)
Suites / First Class: SGD500 ($353)
Customers who booked directly with the airline should use the online assistance request form to cancel their booking and retain its value as flight credits. Flight credit or refund requests for bookings through travel agencies should go directly through the agents for assistance.
Singapore Airlines’ other refund and cancellations policies are still in effect; details are available here.
