Singapore Airlines Launches New JFK-SIN Nonstops
Thrice-weekly service anticipates growth in passenger demand, cargo traffic between Northeast US and Singapore
Singapore Airlines has announced the return of its services between New York and Singapore with the launch of nonstop service connecting John F. Kennedy International Airport and Singapore Changi. The three-times-weekly flights are scheduled to commence Nov. 9, aboard the carrier’s Airbus A350-900 long-range aircraft.
The 18-plus hour flights will depart Singapore for JFK on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday, with return service departing JFK on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
The airline says operating the service into JFK will be supporting a mix of passenger and cargo traffic, including a growing number of transfer passengers who can now transit via Singapore’s Changi Airport. In addition, as the only nonstop air cargo link from the Northeast US to Singapore, the route also anticipates significant cargo demand from a range of industries based in the New York metro area.
Currently Singapore Airlines operates three weekly nonstop services to Los Angeles. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, in addition to LAX, the carrier operated nonstop flights from San Francisco, Seattle and Newark, as well as a Houston service via Manchester and a New York (JFK) service via Frankfurt.
“Operating these flights between Singapore and New York’s JFK International Airport represent an important step in the rebuilding of our global network,” said Lee Lik Hsin, executive vice president commercial for Singapore Airlines.
“Despite the challenging times for the airline industry, there are some early signs of optimism about a recovery in air travel. Our customers say that they are increasingly confident about air travel, given the robust health and safety measures that are in place, as well as testing regimes to protect them and our staff. This optimism is also driven by recent moves by countries such as Singapore, which are easing the restrictions gradually on both transit and inbound passengers in a safe manner.”
The airline says it will continue to review its operations to the US, and assess the demand for air travel as the global recovery from the COVD-19 pandemic continues, before deciding to reinstate services to other points in the country.
“A full recovery to pre-Covid traffic levels will take time, but we are committed to the American market and will continue to invest in it to ensure we are prepared to meet the travel needs of our customers as market conditions improve,” Lee said.
