Sleeping with the Coach. New Approach to Fitness Showcases at Palo Alto Luxury Hotel

Four Seasons Silicon Valley now offering genius gym and virtual personal trainer as an in-room amenity

If gyms were “smart” you could bet that you would find one in Silicon Valley. And so it is that Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley has become the first hotel to feature Tonal, the world’s most intelligent gym and personal trainer, as an in-room amenity for guests. The guest experience also features a Fitness Center redesigned in consultation with Harley Pasternak; and mindful tips and heart-healthy menu items by wellness consultant and author Yvonne Tally.

“These additions to the guest experience promote holistic well-being and productivity,” says Florian Riedel, General Manager of the downtown Palo Alto hotel. “For those who want to maintain their personal wellness while travelling can do so through these multi-layered offerings, giving guests opportunities to be more balanced and focused as they go about their trip.”

With natural light streaming from floor-to-ceiling windows the Hotel’s spacious guest rooms are designed to inspire mobile workers and leisure travelers. Now, selected guest rooms feature Silicon Valley-based Tonal, an all-in-one fitness system and personal trainer. It combines expert coaching, revolutionary equipment, and innovative technology for on-demand, strength training, yoga, cardio classes, and hundreds of guided workouts from the comfort of the guest room.

“We’re excited to partner with pioneering Bay Area technology company Tonal and be the first hotel to feature their trainer in the guest rooms – another Four Seasons Hotel Silicon Valley first,” says Riedel. “This easy-to-use system ensures our guests’ New Year fitness goals can be met even when they are travelling.”

Guests can also request a Peloton bike, Streamline treadmill, stretch ball, yoga mat and more to be placed in their room upon demand.

“We know many of our own members travel often, and we want to provide intelligent strength training when they are on the road. This is an exciting early milestone for Tonal in our efforts to provide more exposure for the brand in the luxury hospitality sector,” said Chris Stadler, CMO of Tonal.

The Gym Reinvented

• Tonal’s sleek, wall-displayed design replaces dozens of traditional weight machines for a full-body workout — with hundreds of moves and 200 pounds (90 kilograms) of resistance — without leaving one’s room.

• Guests train with confidence as Tonal’s Coach A.I. technology monitors the quality of every rep and adjusts resistance for each exercise in real-time based on the individual body so the lifting is never too heavy or too light for an optimal workout.

• Guests can set a goal, select a workout, and follow along as Tonal’s expert coaches guide every step of the way through on-screen instruction, taking the guesswork out of strength training.

• Guests can choose from hundreds of workouts, or create one’s own – any day, any time — no waiting or scheduling required.

The reimagined Fitness Center features new ambient lighting, flooring and a wide range of state-of-the-art weight-training and cardiovascular equipment. The Hotel’s boutique gym experience is complemented with the outdoor Fitness Cabana, located by the sunlit rooftop pool, and equipped with a Peloton, row and elliptical machines, and free weights.

The Hotel also partnered with SoulCycle to offer guests priority access to class availability, complimentary shoes and water, and even transportation to the nearby Stanford Shopping Mall location.

Tips for a Mindful Stay

Furthering a dedication to offering holistic experiences and simple ways to “Take Your Time,” the Hotel partnered with Yvonne Tally to curate a small book of her most useful tips for a mindfully empowered day. Tally is the author of Breaking Up with Busy: Real Life Solutions for Overscheduled Women and co-founder of the Silicon Valley fitness and lifestyle company Poised.

The collection is featured in all the guest rooms, and guests can continue with these practical strategies at home for further well-being.

Heart-Healthy Dishes

Executive Chef Martín Morelli collaborated with Yvonne Tally to highlight dishes on the Hotel’s in-room dining menu that are heart healthy and promote a balanced lifestyle. Those range from the omega bowl with smoked salmon, spinach, goat cheese, scrambled egg whites, and brown rice, to a whole grain and tofu stir fry with quinoa, cauliflower, kale, soy, and spicy peanut sauce.
