San Jose Airport Going to 100 Percent Facial Recognition

Every international traveller passing thorough San Jose Mineta International Airport will soon be identified using facial-recognition technology, the East Bay Times reports.

The California airport will soon become the first on the West Coast of the US to implement 100 per cent facial screening for international passengers.

Orlando International Airport in Florida is the only other US airport to commit to using the technology to verify the identity of all arriving and departing travellers on international flights.

Orlando began using the technology in June 2018.  Los Angeles, San Diego, Atlanta, Miami, JFK, and Houston airports also use facial recognition to identify passengers, but on arriving flights only.

A press release from San Jose airport stated that adopting the facial-recognition technology will “both enhance security and expedite passengers through the inspection process at federal customs checkpoints, thereby reducing wait times for all arriving international travellers.”
