Sensei to Open New Wellness Retreat in California Desert

From island to desert, new resort serves as second for the brand as refreshing new approach to wellness

Sensei, the wellness brand offered at the Four Seasons Lanai in Hawaii, has announced it will open its second retreat, Sensei Porcupine Creek, early next year in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The company is converting a 230-acre private estate into a luxury wellness retreat, its first in the continental United States. It will be a standalone property.

The retreat will offer 22 accommodations, including hotel rooms in the former estate house, garden suites with private Jacuzzis and spa gardens, and two- to four-bedroom private residences with open-concept living spaces, fully equipped kitchens, and expansive views.

Among the facilities are a diagnostic center, yoga and fitness pavilions, a pool, a private golf course and tennis courts.

The brainchild of Larry Ellison, co-founder of computer software company Oracle Corp., and Dr. David Agus, a well-known physician, author and CBS News contributor, Sensei offers a program called The Sensei Way, which is based on movement, nourishment and rest.

Sensei leverages technology to deliver a variety of spa, nutrition, movement, and other wellness and sports programs in natural settings. In Rancho Mirage, that setting is the Coachella Valley desert against the backdrop of the Santa Rosa Mountains.

“Our approach is rooted in science and research and backed by technology,” said Kevin Kelly, CEO of Sensei. “The guest’s stay is further enhanced by unmatched settings grounding people in a lush natural environment that becomes as much a part of the experience as the wellness programs themselves.”

Sensei’s approach aims to collect the most current research backed by clinical trials and data and administers its programs via trained practitioners who hold advanced degrees in their respective fields. Among the property’s team are Sensei Guides who will work with prearrival specialists and sports performance coaches to develop itineraries based on guests’ goals. Itineraries will incorporate activities such as tailored spa treatments, yoga classes, meditation, daily hikes, nutrition consultations, golf and tennis.

In addition, Sensei is continuing its collaboration with Nobu to provide healthy cuisine at the onsite restaurant.
