Hyatt has announced plans to open its third Hyatt Regency property in San Francisco. The existing Park Central San Francisco will reopen in 2022 under the Hyatt Regency brand following a multi-million-dollar renovation next year.

The 681-room Hyatt Regency San Francisco Downtown SoMa will join the Hyatt Regency San Francisco in the financial district, and Hyatt Regency San Francisco Airport. This will be the 10th Hyatt-branded hotel in the city.

The property is located in the city’s South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood on 3rd Street between Market and Mission Streets. The property opened in 1984 as Hotel Meridien San Francisco, and has also previously been marketed under Marriott’s Westin brand, before being sold to LaSalle Hotel Properties in 2015 and becoming an independent property.

Renovations will include a full redesign of guest rooms, as well as the renovation of meeting and events spaces, the ground floor lobby, food and beverage outlets, and the relocation and expansion of the hotel’s fitness center. The hotel will remain open throughout the renovation project.

In 2019, Hyatt announced expansion plans in the western US which would add 40 new properties across the region. The additions are part of hotel group’s larger growth strategy in the Americas which is targeting a portfolio of 200 hotels by 2022, representing a 33 percent increase in Hyatt’s brand presence in the Western Hemisphere.
