TSA Selects Miami and San Jose Airports as a Perimeter Intrusion Test Site
Miami International Airport (MIA) and San Jose International Airport (SJC) were selected by the TSA as test sites for the emerging perimeter intrusion detection and deterrence technologies.
This project is funded through the Make America Secure and Prosperous Appropriations Act. The intent of the project is to develop a multi-year plan to analyze and test perimeter intrusion detection and deterrence technologies at airports.

“Having MIA tapped to play a key role in evaluating cutting-edge security technologies for airports across the United States is an absolute honor for our County,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “We appreciate our federal partners at the TSA for their collaboration and funding in this endeavor.”
Estimated costs of the technology slated to be installed at MIA is $5 million. After the equipment is installed, testing and data collection will take place through August of 2019 with key findings to be released in September of next year.
Miami-Dade Aviation Director Lester Sola states:
“We look forward to being on the frontline of this cutting-edge security technology. Opportunities like this, which assist us in providing a safer and more efficient airport for passengers and business partners alike, will always be welcomed with open arms.”
