United Resumes San Francisco-Shanghai Nonstops
Beginning Oct. 21, the four-times weekly service will eliminate stopover in Seoul
United Airlines has announced the resumption of nonstop service between San Francisco International and Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport. The four-times weekly flights will start operating Oct. 21.
Currently the carrier has four weekly flights between San Francisco and Shanghai that make a stop in Seoul. The new nonstop service will operate four times weekly aboard a Boeing 777-300ER on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Returns from Shanghai will fly Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
United’s resumption of nonstop service between San Francisco and Shanghai indicates a further relaxation of tensions between the US and China around air travel. US carriers United and Delta have both restarted their China services, following a reciprocal agreement reached this summer between aviation authorities of the two countries which allowed US airlines to return to some of their pre-COVID-19 Chinese routes.
“United continues playing a critical role in keeping people and global supply chains connected to Shanghai and to cities around the world,” said Patrick Quayle, United’s vice president of International Network and Alliances.
